I’ve been busy at FUGO Studios, but I’ll post some new work up soon.

Accepted into Canne Film Festival!

I am very excited to announce that two of the shorts I have worked on will be screened at the Canne Film Festival this year.
See them both below:
The Phantom Draw Title Sequence
Here is the title sequence for The Phantom Draw.
The concept behind the sequence relates to a few things. The aesthetics relate to molecules, the creation of molecules, and the feeling of looking at a liver floating in a jar. The line elements relate to the molecular diagram and to the film’s character. He is a peculiar man and tends to go off on tangents in his voice-over.

This was my team’s submission for the Go Green 2011 48 Hour Film Project. We had 48 hours to make the short. We were given a required environmental theme, prop, character, and line of dialogue. We were done with the film at 8 AM on Sunday. It was shot on location in Gainesville and Lawrenceville, Ga.
Required Theme: Save the Environment
Required Character: C. Lee, Volunteer
Required Line of Dialogue: “Can you help me?”
Required Prop: Bowl
Photoshop Fixins
Here is some photo correction I did when we needed a new product shot at the last minute for the Good Nite Lite.

Good Nite Light
A client came to us and wanted a commercial for their night light product. We were originally going to shoot the commercial with a child actor at a location, but they needed the video quicker than they anticipated for an event. They proposed a “Ken Burns” look with just photos. We took the photos and created a slow motion look instead.
We cut out the subjects and objects in Photoshop, and animated them in After Effects with the puppet tool. The product shot was taken in our studio with not lighting and we cleaned it up in Photoshop.
Everything’s For Sale Screening
The screening for FUGO Studios’ latest short film, Everything’s For Sale, is set for this Thursday, Jan 27th at the Landmark Midtown Arts Cinema. There will be two screenings, one at 7 PM and one at 8:30 PM.
It was a great time working on the set and in post-production. Keep an eye out for the title sequence I worked on for the short and feel free to come see the short film.
Periphery – “Jetpacks Was Yes!”
This was produced by Eric Haviv, Richard Webb, and myself of FUGO Studios. We shot the performance parts at a local warehouse with 2 Canon 550D DSLR cameras (with Nikon 50mm Lenses). The storyline locations were shot around Atlanta, mostly in Castleberry, Oakland Cemetery, and Midtown residential streets. The matte paintings (my first time attempting) were made with both location shots and stock footage using Photoshop and After Effects.
Vocalist Spencer Sotelo comments on the new video: “Originally the guys and I wanted to portray a very melancholy vibe. We had been brainstorming ideas together for a few weeks and had some different concepts. I thought it would be awesome to try and bring to life the actual meaning and emotion of the song’s story line in a very literal, yet tasteful way. It is a fictional story about an infinite being who outlives everyone, and everything, he comes in contact with. He comes to realize that although living forever has it’s great benefits, it is a curse because everything has a finite lifespan whether it be people, trees, animals, even planets and solar systems. Therefore, this video is the section of his life where he is reminiscing on his past relationships with different places and people that had meaning to him. The rest is basically showing how he has outlived the very place he had called his home for a great deal of time, and he now has to search for new colonies throughout the galaxy to fit in to and ultimately start over and make a new life.”

Average Guy
My senior project reflects on common conversations and comments I’ve dealt with since childhood about being half Indian and half white. The project reflects a style that is both traditional Indian and modern American. All of the elements were hand-drawn, scanned in, colored in Photoshop, and then animated in
After Effects.

AMC Packaging
This was for a school project to re-brand a network. AMC programming has movies from the 50′s to now, as well as it’s own TV shows. The packaging uses the idea that both young and old have seen these movies but at different times in their lives. It relates the programming to similar events in time. The packaging helps the viewer connect the advertised programming with their own memories of the movies and shows.
Dinner, Drinks, & Desserts
A local online show needed an animated intro for their show. The show follows a female host that educates viewers about various foods and drinks in local Atlanta restaurants. Green screen footage of the host eating and drinking was incorporated with interiors of restaurants. The intro follows a cherry moving from each scene and ending as part of the show title.
